I find drawing extremely relaxing and satisfying to do. Whenever I finish a project I’ve been working on for a couple of hours or days, I feel extremely proud of myself. I definitely will continue to draw and explore with other supplies such as with watercoloring and painting.

I usually don’t spend my free time drawing so I don’t know how good I am now, but I do know that if I spent more time practicing then I would get a lot better. It’s like when I used to be in colorguard in high school, as a freshman with no experience I was really bad. I had to practice for hours outside of my practice with the team in order to perfect new tosses and moves. I was way better after years of practice than after my first week.

Being a public relations major, there aren’t many instances in which I have to draw things out. So far it’s been mostly writing projects as I’ve been learning how to write press releases, research papers and other things. When I begin to learn how to pitch ideas I’m sure I’m going to have to sketch things out to get my ideas across. People like to see visuals so I know sketching will come in handy.

I do think that drawing is a language. We can draw what we aren’t able to communicate verbally. An example of this would be something that happened when my nephew was younger. He knew what he wanted to say, it was just hard for him to get the words out so he drew. He would draw my dog in grass so that I would know he wanted to go to the park. He would draw us dinosaurs and we knew what show he wanted to watch. It was his form of communication for a while before he began speaking in clear sentences.
